CITY TRAILS:The city of Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area is truly a snowmobile destination!! There are plenty of restaurants and lodging establishments in the area. Local snowmobile dealers offer parts, service, clothing and accessories, and several area repair shops provide service as well. Convenience stores & gas stations along our trails carry such items as belts, spark plugs and dealer brand oil. Sault Ste. Marie's I-75 Business Spur is lined with sled-friendly hotels, motels and restaurants.
City trails provide easy access to trails to the west via a unique 12'x12' tunnel running underneath the I-75 expressway! You can travel by sled directly from your hotel to gas or food and then continue on your trip outside the city on a groomed trail. A parking lot in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, located across from the fire station, and the park next to the hydro power plant are available for use as a staging area. | See map | Sault Ste. Marie welcomes snowmobilers to the area and to the city and appreciates the economic impact brought by our favorite winter pastime. |
CITY STREETS:The city of Sault Ste. Marie has long enjoyed a reputation as one of the premier snowmobile-friendly cities of the Midwest and they've taken it a step further by opening streets within the city limits to snowmobile use. However, regulations and restrictions apply, and careless riders can expect a ticket from city police for violations.
Moreover, we must police ourselves-----it's important that the snowmobiling community respect the rights of property owners! All it takes is the thoughtless acts of one or two sledders to spoil it for us all and cause the closing of city streets or areas to snowmobiles. The SSMSA encourages all snowmobilers to report violations to the authorities. Here's the condensed version of the city riding regulations. Go here for the full text of the rules on the Sault Ste. Marie City website, listed under Snowmobile Ordinance/Resolution and City Map |
